What to wear to Datang Everbright City: hanfu outfit ideas & what to bring
Short answer, friend to friend: go for a Tang-style hanfu look — the street is a Tang-themed boulevard and it glows after dark, so rich colours and full hair styling look lovely in photos. Wear a thin, light-coloured layer underneath, don't worry about shoes (the studio has embroidered shoes and disposable socks), and come in the afternoon so you're ready by sunset. For men: a round-collar robe
A Tang-style round-collar robe looks smart and is easy to move in. The studio's 700+ outfits (as of May 2026) cover men, women, children and different body types.
Colours for lantern light
Warm reds, golds and deeper tones stand out against the lights; soft pastels look gentle and pretty too. If you're not sure, show us a photo you like and we'll suggest something close from what's in the studio that day.
Couples, friends and families
Matching colours or a his-and-hers Tang pair photographs nicely. Tell us how many adults and children are coming when you book so we can plan the time.
What to wear under hanfu
A camisole or thin T-shirt works well; skip thick jumpers and hoodies — hanfu has several layers already.
Easy to change into and comfortable under a long skirt or robe.
You won't have to pull anything over your finished hair and makeup when you change back.
The studio has disposable shoulder straps and disposable socks, so you don't need to bring special underwear or socks.
Shoes, weather and what to bring
Embroidered shoes are provided at the studio. If you'd rather wear your own comfortable flats for a long evening, bring a simple neutral pair.
Choose lighter outfits, bring water and a hand fan, and blotting paper for your makeup.
Wear a thin thermal layer underneath (not a thick jumper) and ask us on the day what outer layers are available with your outfit.
A clear umbrella keeps your hair and outfit dry and still looks good in photos.
Phone and power bank, payment app (Alipay or WeChat Pay), your own contact lenses if you usually wear glasses, tissues and a lipstick for small fixes. Free touch-ups at the studio, as arranged on the day.
Timing and photos
Depends on the hairstyle and group size. Arrive in the afternoon and head out around sunset — the street is at its liveliest after dark.
Evenings and Chinese public holidays fill up first.
¥199 does not include a photographer — take photos with your phone or friends, or add a separate photo package. Shoot length, number of photos and any scenic-spot tickets depend on the package and are confirmed when you book.
The return time is agreed when you book.
