Day 1 — Terracotta Army and the old city
The Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum is in Lintong, east of the city. Start early and allow at least half a day including travel. Common ways to get there: Metro Line 9 toward Lintong plus a short bus or taxi, a tourist bus from the Xi'an Railway Station area, or a ride-hailing car. Tickets are real-name, so carry your passport.
Back in town, go up the Ming-dynasty wall at a gate such as the South Gate (Yongningmen). Walking a stretch or renting a bike on the wall are both popular; late-afternoon light is great for photos.
The two towers in the city center are lit up after dark. The Muslim Quarter (Huimin Street) behind the Drum Tower is the classic place for roujiamo, biangbiang noodles and yangrou paomo. Expect crowds on weekends and holidays.
Day 2 — Museum, hanfu and Datang Everbright City
A major museum for Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang history. Reservations are usually required and slots can run out in peak season, so book ahead with your passport and check the museum's notices for opening days.
Yunjin Chang'an is on Cuihua Road, about 1 km from the museum (walk or take a short taxi ride). Choose an outfit, sit for makeup and hairstyling, then walk out dressed. ¥199 package = hanfu + makeup & hair; photographer not included (photo packages are separate).
Head to the Da Ci'en Temple and Big Wild Goose Pagoda area. The squares around the pagoda make an easy first photo stop in your new look.
The pedestrian boulevard south of the pagoda comes alive after dusk with Tang-themed lights, street performances and many visitors in hanfu. Walking the boulevard itself is free; leave some buffer time on busy nights. Tang Paradise (Datang Furong Garden) next door is a ticketed option if you have extra time.
How the hanfu dress-up works
- Book ahead by phone, WhatsApp or WeChat: date, number of people and arrival time. Evenings, weekends and Chinese holidays fill up fast.
- Get there: show the Chinese address above to your driver. The studio is on Cuihua Road, not inside Datang Everbright City; from there it is a short taxi or ride-hailing trip to the pagoda and the boulevard.
- Choose your outfit: Tang-style and other hanfu styles; ask about sizes for men, women and children when booking.
- Makeup & hair are styled one-on-one to match your outfit.
- Walk out and explore. The return time is agreed when you book; the studio is open daily 10:00–21:00.
- Want a photographer? That is a separate photo package and not part of the ¥199 price.
Practical tips for international travelers
- Payments: Alipay and WeChat Pay are used almost everywhere; both can link many foreign cards. Set them up before you arrive.
- Passport: needed for real-name tickets (Terracotta Army, museums) and for trains.
- Getting around: Xi'an Metro reaches the main sights; ride-hailing apps such as DiDi are convenient. Keep the Chinese address handy.
- Timing: Datang Everbright City is liveliest after sunset. Weekends and Chinese public holidays are very crowded.
- Season: summers are hot and winters cold and dry; spring and autumn are comfortable for wearing hanfu outdoors.
